Hiphop organisatie Boogiedown Breda maakt op 2 april festival line-up bekend
Op Goede Vrijdag 2 april organiseert Stichting Boogiedown Nederland in cultureel podium De Wasserette, gelegen aan Vlaszak 2 te Breda, de officiële pre party voor het hiphop festival Boogiedown Breda 2010. Tijdens deze avond maakt de hiphop organisatie de volledige line-up voor de derde editie van het gratis hiphop festival Boogiedown Breda bekend. Naast de bekendmaking van het festivalprogramma wordt gelijktijdig de gloednieuwe en verbeterde website van de origanisatie gelanceerd. Dit kan natuurlijk niet beter dan in de vorm van een muzikale avond met optredens van zowel regionaal als internationaal hiphop talent. De avond begint om 20.00 uur en de entree bedraagt € 7,00 euro.
De invulling van de Boogiedown pre party bestaat uit live optredens van de Brabantse rapper Timmietex en de uit New York overgevlogen hiphop revelatie Cymarshall Law. Oftewel een garantie voor een vermakelijke hiphop avond met kwalitatief hoogstaande en energieke live shows. De Shit is Bangin’ DJ’s DNS en EZD zullen er met hun platenkeuze daarnaast voor zorgen dat tijdens deze avond zowel de gouden oude hiphop klassiekers als de nieuwste club-bangers uit de luidsprekers knallen. Bekendmaking van het festival programma zal worden gedaan door Bashful, de host van de avond.
Timmietex timmert als Tilburgse rapper inmiddels alweer 9 jaar onafgebroken hard aan de weg. Onlangs verscheen zijn debuut album “Tantu Spange Tatta”, die gratis te downloaden is op zijn persoonlijke website www.timmietex.nl . Cymarshall Law stond daar ineens uit het niets en onaangekondigd op het podium tijdens de eerste editie van festival Boogiedown Breda. Hij had destijds afgesproken met collega rapper Wordsworth die op dat moment op tour was in Europa met de formatie eMC en in 2008 als internationale hoofdact het festival Boogiedown Breda afsloot. Twee albums en een aantal samenwerkingen met gerenommeerde mc’s als KRS-One, Jean Grae en Sean Price rijker, komt Cymarshall Law nu opnieuw naar Breda om zijn onlangs verschenen “Creator’s Kid EP” te promoten. Hij wordt bijgestaan door DJ Lord Faz uit Frankrijk, met wie hij onlangs samen de mixtape Beat Trotterz Volume 2 uitbracht. DJ’s DNS en EZD staan er om bekend om tijdens hun maandelijkse Shit is Bangin’ avonden in café de Speeltuin het publiek op een dansbare mix van hiphop, funk, reggae, rock en jazz te trakteren. Op vrijdag 2 april zullen ze in cultureel podium de Wasserette enkel en alleen de beste hiphop klassiekers, de nieuwste club-bangers en strictly underground funk plaatjes in de mix gooien om het geheel muzikaal te omlijsten. Don Cash links new deal with URBNET Records |

Toronto hip-hop/electro phenomenon Don Cash
is greeting the new decade
in style, as his critically acclaimed 2009 LP "Freshy Fresh" is being remastered and rereleased (with several brand new songs) in March 2010 by URBNET Records, the pre-eminent independent Canadian rap label.
"I'm really excited about this partnership with URBNET," Cash says from his apartment in the Toronto neighbourhood of Parkdale. "I've traveled around the world and had records released in Europe and Asia but this is the first time I'll have a proper LP release in North America. It's something I've wanted for a long time and I think it will be the beginning of big things for me."
Cash, who initially gained international notoriety by releasing CD-Rs on his private Stereoeagle label, says he hopes the new deal with Urbnet will allow his records to be played on Canadian radio stations and his videos shown on the country's TV networks.
"I started out underground, and that's still a big part of who I am," Cash says. "But even when I was putting out CDRs, I met people in the industry who felt that my music had huge pop potential. Naturally, as an artist, I was initially suspicious, but as I improved as a producer and a songwriter, I realized that in order to reach my ultimate goals, I would at least have to make the attempt to succeed within the music industry.
"It took a bit of time to find the right situation and last year's credit crisis didn't help, as several deals fell through because the companies I was talking with either lost their backing or couldn't get loans. However, once Urbnet reached out to me, I realized this was an opportunity I couldn't afford to pass up. They're licensing the record from Stereoeagle, so not too much is going to change on my end. The only real difference will be the vastly improved sound quality and the fact you'll finally be able to buy my records in stores across Canada."
Following on the heels of the international success of Toronto MCs Drake, Isis (of Thunderheist), Knaan, and K-oS, Cash is bullish on his prospects for the year ahead. Still he has one particular goal in mind above all others. With the increased visibility provided by URBNET's nationwide promotional muscle, Cash is planning on a tour of Canada in 2010.
"I'm a Canadian and it's important for me that people understand that I make Canadian music," Cash says. "Don Cash II (the 2007 blockbuster that propelled Cash's star in Europe) was released on a Berlin label, but it was written and recorded in two months in an apartment in Mile End in Montreal.
"Just last year I got the chance to play in Vancouver for the first time and I was shocked at how many people knew about me and my music out west, considering the fact that my records weren't out there. Van City is awesome! I've got standing offers to play in a bunch of Canadian cities, so I'm hoping it all comes together and we'll make it happen this year."
2010 marks the start of a new decade, a time of endings and beginnings. For Don Cash, he hopes the year will mark the beginning of a fresh new phase in his wonderfully prolific and eclectic career.
"I've been so lucky in my life" Cash says. "It seems like I'm always at the right place at the right time. The last six months in Toronto have been the best ever. Every show is more electric that the last one. Things really seem to be opening up for me in Canada and I'm so happy about it because it's a real vote of confidence in my life and work. I mean, just getting a record release anywhere is an achievement and I'll always love Europe for giving me the push I needed to get into the mainstream. Still, I'm totally looking forward to the day when my record comes out and my friends and family can say, "hey I saw your record in the shop today" or "I heard your new one on the radio today and it rocks". |

Large Professor's highly anticipated 1st solo debut album The LP that was originally slated to come out on Geffen Records in 1995/1996 is, 14 years later, now available, sanctioned by The Large Professor and being released through Paul Sea Productions.
Due to label politics at the time, the album unfortunately was never released.
"THE LP" includes bonus unreleased songs and a few rare unearthed alternate demo versions of classic tracks such as the "Mad Scientist".
It also includes "I Juswanna Chill", "That Bullshit", the title track "The LP", "Hard", "One Plus One" featuring NAS, the newly polished up "Queens Lounge" and many more! All songs are produced by The Large Professor except "Large Pro:Verbs" produced by Vandamator & "Spacey" produced by Toney Rome.
As Large Professor states "This album represents a time in the 1990s when Hip Hop was more about the good times, when artists were rich in music and rich in talent and it wasn't about how much money you had."

Omega Supreme, the original DJ of legendary rap group Organized Konfusion, passed away Wednesday (December 23rd), after a long battle with cancer.
"He was the best supporter I ever had," Prince Po told AllHipHop.com. "He was never the type to try and be out front of the show, but ever since I've known him, from high school on, he would come to all my basketball games, my shows, always happy to be there for me. He was a true friend."
"He tried to bring taleneted and thirsty horses to water," recalled Prince Po. |

The homie Bachir is about to release a mixtape dedicated to The Nonce early 2010.
Quoi de plus logique que de dédier un mix aux auteurs du fabuleux "Mixtapes" ?
Étonnamment, personne ne s'était vraiment attelé jusqu'ici à fournir une sélection digne de ce nom des meilleurs morceaux de The Nonce.
Cet oubli est désormais réparé vu que notre bon ami Bachir a pioché dans ses meilleures vinyles (no MP3's allowed!) pour vous fournir un aperçu plus que complet des meilleures saillies sonores de Nouka Basetype (aka Sach) et du regretté Yusef Afloat.
Pour ceux qui auraient séché les cours trop longtemps, The Nonce reste un des groupes emblématiques de la scène underground californienne que l'on aime tant et qui, biberonnée aux soirées open mic du Good Life Café, n'a eu de cesse d'alimenter nos platines de disques excitants.
Du classique "World Ultimate" à "The Right State of Mind" en passant par "The Sight Of Things", The Nonce s'est construit en peu de temps (entre 1994 et 2000) une discographie qui a su résister à l'épreuve du temps et survivre à la mort tragique de Yusef... tout comme les productions des deux acolytes pour Acey Uno (remember "All Balls Don't Bounce") ou pour l'oublié Supherb...
Il était donc grand temps de consacrer une rétrospective à ce duo superlatif.
Une rétrospective qui a, par ailleurs, le bon goût de ne pas oublier que Nouka a su se réinventer en Sach ou à travers la clique Global Phlowtations (Inoe One) et continuer à sortir des projets enthousiasmants sur lesquels il eut été dommage de faire l'impasse.
C'est donc au format CD que Bachir, Rayon Du Fond et Hip Hop Core vous proposeront sous peu de (re)découvrir les architectes de 'World Ultimate' et 'On The Air'.
